Osprey Platform Goes up over SHS lights

In the Spring of 2017, an Osprey nest appeared on one of the light poles overlooking the Varsity soccer and softball fields on the Silverton High School campus. Osprey are a migratory bird protected by both Federal and State laws. The nest was at risk on the light pole of overheating and potentially even catching fire if the lights were turned on, necessitating that light pole be deactivated until a solution could be installed.

Working in concert with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and Marion County Soils & Water, the district has now had the nest relocated to a platform above the light pole. See the photos below for images of the nest before, during, and after the platform’s addition.
