Working in education isn’t an easy career, but it is a worthy and rewarding one. This May, eight retiring licensed and classified Silver Falls employees were honored for their years of service at the Annual Retirement Gala. Surrounded by family and friends, those in attendance celebrated the 169-combined years of service that the eight retirees gave to the Silver Falls School District and others.
“One of my favorite moments from this event was listening to the comments made about the retirees,” said SFSD Assistant Superintendent, Dandy Stevens.
Those in attendance smiled, laughed and nodded along as principals and other staff members recounted memories that made each retiree so special. Furthermore, the Silverton High School Choralaires performed during the event, to the delight of the audience.
“Anytime there is an opportunity to watch our students perform and watch amazing teachers support students in reaching their full potential reminds me why the work we do is so important,” said Stevens.
While the gala itself is often bittersweet, it has become an event that many look forward to. Thanks to the Annual Retirement Gala, retirees receive some of the gratitude and honor they deserve while returning staff leave inspired and refreshed for the years ahead.
