Superintendent’s Message – March 2018

Thanking our Classified Employees

During the week of March 5, we officially celebrated National Classified Employee Week. It was a week set aside to recognize and thank our outstanding classified team. Every one of them makes a difference in the lives of our students, families, teachers and administrators. We know they are the backbone of our education system and we are fortunate to have the talents of each classified employee in our SFSD family. From our special needs assistants and office staff, to our custodial and security employees, they are our everyday heroes and keep our district running smoothly.

On behalf of our teachers, district office staff members, administrators and school board members, I’d like to say thank you to our classified team!

Graduating OUR students

I would also like to highlight more great news in our district. Graduation rates recently released by the Oregon Department of Education show that our district continues to shine at nearly 90%, well above the 79% state average. We are making gains toward our Mission. Our team is working hard to engage each and every student in learning and it shows. I’m especially proud of the gains in our subgroups. Every one of them (Hispanic, Economically Disadvantaged, English Learners, Special Education, Migrant Education and Career and Technical Education) is performing above the state average. In 2017, our Migrant Educations students had a 100% graduation rate. We are thrilled with this success.

Thank you for your support as we continue to support the needs of all of OUR students. I’m proud to partner with you as we take on the second half of the school year.
