Every once-in-a-while, the SFSD is presented with a unique request that doesn’t quite fit into the day-to-day business of education. The district team tries to keep an open-minded approach and look for innovative opportunities for learning. Recently, a movie production company contacted the district about using the former Eugene Field School building as a filming location for A Haunting at Silver Falls 2. Superintendent Andy Bellando agreed, with the condition that Silverton High School technology and drama students be invited to observe the filming process.
“We charged a very minimal fee to film in the vacant building and we turned the event into an opportunity for our technology and drama students to see movie production in action,” said Bellando.
Bellando said the students enjoyed the “behind-the-scenes” perspective.
