Former students and staff say goodbye to Eugene Field
About 300 former and current students, faculty and staff, gathered together on a recent Saturday to say goodbye to Eugene Field School. The 95-year-old school is closing and its students and staff are relocating to Mark Twain Elementary (formerly Mark Twain Middle School). The students and staff members of Mark Twain Middle School will occupy the remodeled single-story portion of the Schlador Street campus which will become Silverton Middle School.
Guests at the goodbye celebration shared memories, perused old photos, articles, memorabilia and a timeline of the school’s history. The school’s Maypole was also on display.
“Some folks stayed the entire two hours enjoying the memorabilia, treats and Maypole,” said Eugene Field School secretary Debbie Wiesner, who helped plan the event. “Larry Brown, who attended EF in 1940, was there as well as students from our population today. A large group of retired staff helped and attended to make the event a success.”
