Congratulations to Mark Twain Middle School’s Darby Hector for being recognized as a Civic Scholar at the Oregon Civic Conference for Teachers in early December. Hector, who teaches library media, was one of two teachers in the 18th legislative district chosen by Rep. Vic Gilliam to attend the conference in the state capitol. The award is part of a statewide initiative to enhance high quality professional development in civic education for teachers. The conference draws teachers from across the state for an insider’s view of government and delivers classroom-ready lessons. Participants attend workshops led by representatives from all three branches of government and receive resources, formal training and classroom coaching.
