Superintendent’s Message – January 2018

A Note on Recent Events

Before we get into the body of this newsletter, I’d like to point you to a special message on the district’s website, going live the same day as this newsletter. Please take a look when you get the chance.

Spending time at Silverton Middle School

Happy New Year to our Silver Falls School District families, friends and neighbors. This month, I had the honor of spending some time with our Silverton Middle School students and staff. The annual Lunch and Learn Art Show was a great success again. Each year, I’m amazed by the talent our students present under the direction of our art teacher Shana Chandler. Our new SMS principal Brett Davisson and the team have been working hard to create a welcoming, inclusive place for our kids to learn, and it really shows. Our team, students and parents have been supportive and patient with our transition into the building and have welcomed our new principal.

Recognizing National School Board Appreciation Month

January is National School Board Appreciation Month and I’d like to thank our volunteer board members for their time and interest in the important work of providing our kids with an excellent education. I also want to thank the community members who have taken the time to attend board meetings, share concerns and address some difficult issues. While the process is not always easy, it’s very important and it makes a difference. We need to talk about and hear different perspectives on a regular basis. Most importantly, we need to come together as a community to make sure that we stay focused on our kids.

Celebrating our team

This past weekend, in partnership with the Silverton Chamber of Commerce, we celebrated seven outstanding SFSD employees at the Annual First Citizen Banquet. Please join me in thanking and congratulating these members of our team for everything they do to help our students succeed.

Each person was selected by a vote of their colleagues. The banquet is a very proud evening for our community and we are thrilled to have honored the following incredible educators:
