One of SFSD’s newest school board members, Shelly Nealon, does a lot to support the local community. She has volunteered for a number of causes in Silverton over the years including the Junior Baseball Organization, the Pool Committee and Safe Routes to School. With three children, including a freshman and senior at Silverton High School, Nealon felt it was a good time for her to get involved at a deeper level.
“Of all the volunteer opportunities I have given my time to, I am most honored to be serving as a school board member,” said Nealon. “Being elected to represent my community, our kids and the education system are very meaningful to me and I take this responsibility seriously.”
As a former teacher from Kansas City, Nealon has always been passionate about education and students. When she learned that there were board positions up for election, she saw an opportunity to volunteer and make a difference.
“I am so impressed with the dedication of the teachers, staff and administrators who work for our district,” said Nealon. “I’ve been in the classroom and know it’s both a challenging and rewarding job. I want them to know I’m here for them.”
