Spring is finally here and we’re headed down the home stretch for this school year. Our teachers, classified staff and administrators have been the spirit, energy and sunshine for our students through a snowy winter and damp, gray spring. I’d like to say a special thanks to our team members for their outstanding work and positive attitudes. I also want to take a minute to recognize two groups of SFSD champions for children and education.
Hats off to our SFSD administrative professionals
Last month, we celebrated Administrative Professional’s Week between April 23 and 29. This national recognition week gives us a chance to say thank you and to acknowledge the important work of our secretaries who are the smiling, welcoming faces at our schools and district office. More than that, they are also key decision-makers who keep us organized and on track on a daily basis.
This year, we say farewell to two of our district office secretaries, Denise Childs and Marlys Jones, who will be retiring at the end of June. Both have served our children, families and staff with grace and respect and they will be missed. Denise has been with SFSD for 20 years and provides me, and the school board, with incredible support and a daily dose of humor. Marlys has dedicated the past 23 years to serving our special education teams.
Thank you to our incredible SFSD teachers
This month, we also celebrated National Teacher Appreciation Week May 8 through 12. It’s difficult to express my admiration for our team of educators who continue to demonstrate professionalism and flexibility in providing our students with an exceptional education. Despite ongoing cuts in state funding for education, our team finds innovative ways to engage students and it shows. Our graduation rates are growing and continue to far exceed those of the state and our students are stretching to reach their potential. I couldn’t ask for a more talented, passionate team and I am grateful to all of them.
I hope you will join me in recognizing our incredible team. We’re looking forward to a successful end to the school year.
