Superintendent’s Message — April 2017

Visiting all of our schools and connecting with students and staff is one of the best parts of my job. It reminds me why we’re here and also gives me the opportunity to see our incredible team in action. Recently, I spent time at Victor Point and Evergreen schools. There’s no question that we are part of a unique and diverse school district. With 13 schools of all sizes and configurations, we clearly shine in many different ways. From our rural schools to the schools in town, each brings something different and special to the students and families they serve. I am proud to say that our diversity is our strength. We recognize and value the benefits of our K-8 schools as well as our more conventional schools. Bottom line is, when I walk into each building and see the kids thriving, parents volunteering and staff using innovative ways to engage students, I know that we have something special in the Silver Falls School District.

Our community is also key to student success. We feel fortunate to enjoy many partnerships with local businesses and community leaders. From Silverton Health to The Oregon Garden, we continue to collaborate in support of education. Another way in which we partner with community members is through leadership on our school board. On May 16, you will have the opportunity to vote on three seats. I encourage you to vote and have a voice in this important selection. Our school board members play a critical role in education for our kids.

As always, I thank you for your support and look forward to a successful end to the school year. Don’t hesitate to get in touch.
