Superintendent’s Message — February 2017

I have a personal goal to visit each of our buildings throughout the school year. It helps me stay connected to our talented team and our great students and it also allows me to see first-hand how our district is shaping the future through education. This month, I spent some quality time at Mark Twain Elementary and I left feeling impressed and inspired. One thing that struck me was the enthusiasm of the team. It was exciting to talk with teachers who were eager to share their students’ successes with me. I also saw so many kids truly engaged in learning. There was such a positive spirit in the former middle school that is now home to our youngest students who moved from Eugene Field in September.

On another note, I want to take a minute to acknowledge our outstanding team of SFSD school counselors. National School Counseling Week was earlier this month and I want to recognize our counselors for the tremendous impact they have in helping students realize their potential and achieve school success. They are such a critical part of our district team. Please join me in thanking them for the important work they do everyday.

Things are good throughout the district right now and I feel grateful to our team for their commitment and flexibility during a challenging time of transitions. They did an amazing job making the most of the limited resources, aging facilities and remodels. I also want to thank our parents, families and neighbors for their ongoing patience and support. Thanks to all, we are moving forward together.
