SFSD has selected Durham School Services as its new transportation provider beginning this fall. The company will provide the district with a fleet of newer school buses with extensive safety benefits.
Durham was chosen after an in depth RFP process and review was conducted by a selection committee comprised of members of the school district team, school board and community.
“We are particularly impressed with Durham’s safety measures and the emphasis they place on educating and training drivers to work with children,” said SFSD Assistant Superintendent Dandy Stevens.
According to Stevens, the condition and age of the Durham fleet, along with the technology it offers was an important factor in choosing the company.
“We are confident that Durham’s experience and approach will result in improved service levels throughout the district,” said Stevens.
Durham’s contract with SFSD begins July 1, but Stevens said they are already in the process of interviewing and hiring drivers for the coming school year.
In addition to the safety benefits of a newer fleet, Durham offers many advantages including zonar GPS, digital cameras and two-way radios on all buses. Durham will also be working with the district on PBIS (Positive Behavior Support Systems) for student behavior on the buses and establishing a new and more efficient routing process.
