Exciting work is underway on several schools in the Silver Falls School District. Below is an update on what is going on:
Silverton Middle School
The single story sections of the future Silverton Middle School building is being remodeled and upgraded. Materials such as cabinets and shelving are being salvaged from the two-story building and the old brick wall that attaches to the newer portion is being seismically upgraded to ensure the safety of our students and staff. Preparation is also being done to the outside in order to accommodate modular units for students. Planning and construction teams have been working hard to keep the project on schedule to open in September.
The covered play area and playground design for next year’s students in grades K-2 is complete. Playground construction will occur over the summer. The covered play structure will be built in October.
Scotts Mills and Butte Creek
The grant-funded seismic upgrades at Scotts Mills School is scheduled to begin. The seismic upgrade project at Butte Creek School has been postponed to the summer of 2017.
“I want to thank our Mark Twain, Eugene Field, Robert Frost, and Scotts Mills teachers and staff for their support and collaboration during these transitions,” said SFSD Superintendent Andy Bellando. “They are working hard to ensure these changes go smoothly and that our students enjoy a great start to the new school year.”
