A Springtime Message from Superintendent Andy Bellando

It’s hard to believe that spring is already here. It’s been a great year thanks to our dedicated team, hard-working students and supportive families and community members. One of our goals over the past several years has been to improve two-way communication and we’ve made it a priority to ask for and share on a more regular basis. The feedback you’ve provided has helped guide our decision-making and it continues to influence our efforts to create an excellent learning environment for our students. In addition, our electronic newsletter and Facebook following is growing and we are grateful for your ongoing comments and input. Thank you also to those who contributed to the recent Envision Silverton 2035, a survey from the City of Silverton. Great feedback about our schools was shared by many.

I wanted to give you a heads up as we get ready to launch another electronic survey through Thoughtexchange (formerly Thoughtstream) at the end of April. Our hope is to find out how we’ve been doing since we last asked in 2013. We want your input on what we’re doing well and where we can improve. It’s been a few years since we asked formally so we would like to reach out again. Please watch for the email survey from Thoughtexchange. This process helps give us a sense of common priorities, concerns and values represented in our diverse school district. I look forward to the results of and I thank everyone in advance for their invaluable participation.

On an entirely different note, I want to take a minute to express how impressed I am with the wide range of talent and hard work that takes place within our student activities programs. We are seeing such exceptional talent and dedication in athletics, music, theater, science and other activities. From our Lady Foxes basketball team winning the 5A state championship to the many “Battle of the Books” teams across our district, Silver Falls School District students are thriving. I was pleased to attend a performance of the recent SHS musical “Cinderella”. Again, I was truly amazed at the theatrical and musical talent that these productions demonstrate. Congratulations to all of our students and staff who make these student activities so successful.
